Changing Your Look in an Instant: Temporary Hair Extensions and Hair Pieces

DSC_0104For many, when they think about the world of wigs and hair pieces, their first thought may be that these products are just for those going through a medical crisis or for women who are aging and have thinning hair. What also may come to mind are the poorly made and terribly tacky hair add-ons that can be found at local beauty supply stores or at kiosks in the mall. Fortunately, Hollywood and fashion magazines are attempting to change these perceptions. Better yet, hair piece technology has made vast improvements in recent years

Hair extensions have become increasingly popular, but semi permanent ones can be costly and require a certain commitment level. On the other hand, there are a variety of temporary hair pieces that are more economical, easy to use, and look great. Here are some of the most popular types of temporary hair extensions and additions that you may want to consider for a special occasion or just to boost your various everyday looks:

  • Clip On/In Hair – This type of hair extension has pressure sensitive clips that attachDSC_0026 to your real hair. You can apply them within minutes to get fuller and/or longer hair or to add highlights. One great benefit is that they are also less damaging than semi permanent extensions since they don’t use glue or cause breakage to your natural hair.
  • Ponytails – Sometimes a girl just needs to put her hair back on a hot day, but while shoulder length hair may look great down, it can look a little wimpy in a ponytail. Also, if you have thin hair your ponytail may look stringy or sparse. Ponytail hairpieces are a great option and can either clip on or tie on to your existing hair.
  • Bangs – I’m not sure what comes in and out of style more often: high waisted pants or bangs. Fortunately with bang hair pieces, you can just clip them in to instantly change your look without the excruciatingly long period of growing them back out if you change your mind.
  • Monomiracle Wire Extensions – This type of extension has the hair attached to a thin wire that sits on the crown of your head and your natural hair is adjusted over it to hold it in place. It seamlessly blends into your hair to create length and volume.

About Janelle P.

I am proud to be one of the foremost hair loss specialists in the Bay Area with over thirty years experience in the field. At age 12 I began styling wigs for fashion and fun and assisted my mother after she established Wig Works in the early 1970’s. My passion for hair led me to Honolulu where I worked closely with legendary stylist Paul Mitchell. I had the honor to perform onstage platform hair styling with Mr. Mitchell, as well as legendaries Jean Braa, Zenon, and Alan Bush. I was also highly involved with the development and distribution of the Paul Mitchell line and later worked as a color representative for L’Oreal and stylist instructor for Matrix. I returned to the Bay Area and expanded Wig Works, with the establishment of Extensions for Hair. The revolutionary new hair extension method offered my clients with thin hair the opportunity to augment their style rather than relying on a wig or hair clip for length or fullness. These hair extensions are popular with women of all ages. Furthermore, I survived breast cancer twice and once lost all my hair from chemotherapy, so I have a unique perspective on special hair needs.
